Write My Admission Essay
Write My Admission Essay Afterward, take the time to think about it before brainstorming on the different ways to answer it. While revising and reworking the drafts is more of a âglobalâ process, this step also includes changing phrases and fixing grammar, punctuation, and style errors in the work. Thesaurus abuse is a lazy and easily spotted trick, and seasoned admissions officers will see right through it. If you feel that you're overusing a particular word, think of alternatives on your own without consulting a thesaurus; using words that you're familiar with will help you avoid misusing them. When tailoring responses to individual college prompts, itâs important to use specific details youâve learned through visiting and research. Not only does this show colleges that youâve have done your homework, but it also demonstrates your interest in the college â" and colleges want to admit students who are likely to enroll. Show your knowledge of the college by mentioning specific courses, professors, places of interest, and more. Claiming that you have good study habits is another empty claim. Detailing the exact study habits that have helped you succeed in school, backed up with the GPA on your application, carries much more weight. Using words in your essay that you don't typically use in your daily conversations can sound awkward and forced. Words have nuance to them, and simply inserting a word from the thesaurus is a great way to destroy that nuance. The same process which was used to select English essay topics can be used to select admission topics as well. Simply asserting that you have what the university is looking for is not convincing; anyone could make the same claim as plausibly as you if you don't back up your claims with evidence. Stating that you believe in integrity, for example, is an easy claim that's made by thousands of politicians and used car salespeople every year. If you want to demonstrate your integrity, share a story that illustrates how you passed up an opportunity to exploit an advantage that was unfairly gained. Be sure to keep the focus of the essay narrow and personal. Donât tell your whole life story, but tell enough of it to answer the question. As you are telling your story, be honest, be yourself and do it in the most concise way you can. Before penning down a word of your admission essay, it is important that you understand the question and what it expects from you. At the end of the essay, the question that was asked should have been answered fully and in detail. Admission Boards do not have the time for long and winded illustrations and examples. A good topic is essential for the essay, especially if it is to catch the eye of the reader. Even after confirming that your essay is as close to perfect as it can get, you need to get it closer still. After rewriting the essay several times, keep it away. Let it sit for a couple of hours untouched or even a whole day where the deadline isnât close. After catching the new episode of that TV show you love or going a few chapters of the book you have been reading, go through your essay one more time. Correct any mistakes you find, but be sure not to rely on grammar and spelling checkers as they cannot put your words into context. When you apply to Stanford, you apply to the university as a whole, not to a particular major, department or school. We encourage you to indicate prospective majors and career interests in the application, but please know you are not bound by these selections in any way. Our writers will ensure that your essay is written in the proper manner for you to be selected into the desired school. This part is like your last word and last chance to prove you deserve to become a student of the college or university of your dream. Every academic institution will have there preferences, therefore, verifying which format is the most suitable prior to writing the essay is recommended. Show how you fit into the campus culture and how you will impact the community through specific examples. This final step will likely take much longer than writing the entire essay. You may have to revise several times before your essay delivers your message perfectly. As you go through your revision keep these basic guidelines in mind. Not everyone is a born writerâ"in fact, pretty much no one is. And this is why it is absolutely essential that you give yourself some time to not only finish the first draft of your essay but to edit and revise your work and even rewrite the essay again if necessary. Essays for admission need to be written in the proper manner. You have to use proper words, proper grammar and write in a positive manner. This essay can be written as a persuasive essay although it should be said to keep the persuasion at a minimum.

College Admission Essay Writing
College Admission Essay Writing I dove into Aristotle and Thucydides while my dog investigated the nearby smells. Every evening, I ticked off the days on the calendar, counting down to the day I would fly from Michigan to Santa Fe. As a result, my grades suffered and Iâve spent most of my time in math class frustrated, confused, and upset. My teachers, although they tried, were unable to explain things to me and I, to be fair, was not great at listening to their explanations. The only time I loved math was sophomore year when we did proofs. The end of the book, and thus the Narnia series, is death. Just death, of everyone and everything, as Aslan, the Jesus-like lion and creator of Narnia, leads the dead spirits of all Narnians, including most of the main characters, toâ¦Narnia. Where, as the characters describe, the world was exactly the same as Narniaâ¦but Truer. He said winning without fighting is the greatest victory. I think we canât resolve conflicts, avoid wars, or maintain stability without understanding ourselves and our neighbors. It is a simple parable that reminds of Platoâs Allegory of the Cave, where one man emerges from a lifetime of staring at shadows dancing on a cave wall to a real and vibrant and three-dimensional world. I had read Platoâs Republic, his Allegory of the Cave, and various dialogues in my sophomore year; I was surprisingly only finishing the Narnia series in my junior year. My family bought three copies so my mom, my dad and I could all read it immediately. Rowlingâs stories about a boy growing up, having misadventures and facing his destiny enraptured me, but the real witchcraft was in her words. Eventually the couple is able to guide themselves into ever more elaborate notations as they attempt to build proofs to solidify these connected ideas about numbers. The book goes surprisingly far into defining numbers, including advanced concepts such as infinitesimals and the different levels of infinity. The Last Battle was the spark that gave me hope, Platoâs Allegory of the Cave gave me strength, and Platoâs Republic is what gave me the intellectual confidence in the presence of the ideal and the universal. His ability to so perfectly enunciate why we must never lose hope, and always struggle towards the ideal. I, all artists, and those seeking some sort of universal truth, must try to achieve that purest, most visceral understanding. That idea, presented in Platoâs work, had not yet become clear to me, until I finished reading The Last Battle. This helped me to better understand what numbers are and that I had not appreciated all of the work that had gone into defining them for our use today. In this way they were Socrates-- and I was the student who ended up understanding more than I anticipated, or was expected to, because of the way I was carefully led by the author and his characters. There are no other works that best exemplify that power of words and ideas have had on my life and my outlook on it. C.S. Lewis himself was a big fan of Plato; his works were the key that allowed me to decipher the meaning encoded in the Plato that I had read. They were puzzles and fascinating in a way that other math wasnât. He said only understanding yourself and your enemy guarantees victory. I think understanding is more important than ever, because people of almost any culture can be found in almost every country. Some of our neighbors have F1 visas and sit next to us in school. Some of our neighbors become citizens of our country and permanently change and enrich our national identity. Western military personnel and aid workers are side-by-side with tribal fighters and indigenous community leaders, combating terrorism, lawlessness, and poverty. We are becoming a rich gumbo, not a homogenous puree. Rowlingâs Harry Potter series was published, I was in third grade. It was as if the world finally came to terms with your mind. Like waking up from a dream to realize a truer, better world, the Narnians were led to the truest and most awoken state.

Despite their below average GPA, thereâs no doubt they gained admission on the strength of this Essay A that helped connect their expanded resume and Essay E about growing up in a mixed-religions household. I divided responsibilities and maintained our daily schedule to keep our workflow moving smoothly. Some might write this off as merely doing work for a High School team, but I disagree. I functioned as the liaison between policy owners and J&J, including those in non-English speaking countries, who were operating in different time zone. Working cross-culturally can be a challenge, but I learned quickly. I stayed organized and met intense deadlines assigned to my team by the Vice President of Global HR Services. They demonstrate how their current studies and travels abroad inform them that although they want to change universities, they want to continue majoring in Anthropology. My passion with linguistic anthropology began when I was nine years old when my parents took me on my first international trip. We traveled throughout Italy, Switzerland, France, Spain, Sicilia, and Croatia. With each country, there was an entire new method of communication, an entirely new way of life. I had not considered that a university experience could be both academically enriching and spiritually fulfilling. Despite living in Houston for my entire life, I could never have imagined the city so beautiful. I absorbed the scenes below â" the bustling traffic, the diverging currents of the bayou snaking in the distance, and the impersonal skyscrapers dotting the vista, silently taunting our unrestricted zoning laws. I worked thirty to forty hours each week while taking a full course load. I learned to communicate effectively at an early age. No matter what situation my family was going through, my sisters and other relatives considered my opinions and often put my suggestions into practice. My survival and quality of life depends on resolving conflicts for work, for my internship, and for relaying messages within a divided family. Recognizing my strength, I feel that public relations would be the perfect major for me. I swear I could almost see the curvature of the Earth, two million people all in my field of view. UT has extensive study abroad and language programs, and they develop well how UT offers resources not accessible at any other public university. The more I considered and explored my academic goals and future, the clearer it became that only the University of Texas offers the rigor and challenge that I seek. Throughout, they argue convincingly that they know where they want to go, how they bring diverse perspectives to campus, and why UT is their best fit university. They cover a lot of territory discussing being raised in two different countries and attending three different schools with radically different environments before transitioning back to Texas and attending HCC. They touch on independent studies and a relevant internship that informs their prospective major and career goals. Like The University of Texas, I also want to transform myself and change the world. Providing specific observations from their visit letâs the review know that they are making an informed decision to transfer. I began by building a website and managing their nascent social media channels. I started producing a weekly documentary series following their progress during the season. I considered my strengths, and now I understand that I love communicating with people and solving problems. Iâm the go-to person in my friend group when relationships end or problems happen at school, and I am used to handling family crises at home. My fascination and excitement was furthered with the University of Texas when I researched the Anthropology Department. I was amazed at the neverâ"ending opportunities for research. As time wore on, I concluded I was not finding the challenges I originally sought. I refused to settle into the mediocre routines around me and merely coast along with strong, yet hollow grades. Itâs a well-written response that no doubt helped their reviewer form a mental image of the student. Everyone can relate to the nervousness of being out of their element and receiving pleasant surprising news when they were otherwise doubtful. I like this essay a lot because it shares a compelling story that frames where theyâve come from academically and professionally, where they currently are, and how UT can help them achieve their goals. They also discussed why they enrolled at the University of Houston, their home city, rather than pursuing UT-Austinâs Coordinated Admissions Program. I stepped into the panoramic atrium offering a birds-eye view of Houston, the Sky Lobby.

The value in telling my story is just as important as hearing another. Little by little, American culture poured into my life, intermingling with my Guatemalan roots. The more I remain nonjudgmental, the more my own beliefs develop and become nuanced. I extract small pieces of their perspectives in order to enhance my own. It was my turn to take the shovel, but I felt too ashamed to dutifully send her off when I had not properly said goodbye. I refused to let go of my grandmother, to accept a death I had not seen coming, to believe that an illness could not only interrupt, but steal a beloved life. Finally, I extend my hesitant arm to pick up the pack of masa harina and proceed to pour it into the bowl. As I pour the masa harina, I cannot help but think about how much it resembles my journey to America. Sometimes, pure adrenaline rushes through my body, making me want to bang my hands on the table out of complete anger towards an opinion. I have learned, though, that suppressing my emotional side during a time of disagreement and instead responding with calmness gets my point across more effectively. When that irritation begins to overtake my ability to concentrate on another personâs outlook, I always try to draw from my experiences of living both in the South and in the West. They are surrounded by different cultures and experiences. Despite our differences, Emily and I have a healthy relationship in which we are able to learn from one another; the acknowledgement of our individual value allows us to avoid bitterness. I strive to continue improving my ability to be comfortable with disagreement in order to learn more from my peers. I may not always send up agreeing with Emily, or other people I care about, but I should at least try to understand a different perspective. Only then can I create a bridge that connects two different ideas, allowing for a more harmonious world. So, I try to listen with an open mind, even when that feels extremely difficult. However, a simple walk on a hiking trail behind my house made me open my own eyes to the truth. Over the years, everything--even honoring my grandmother--had become second to school and grades. Before I could resolve my guilt, I had to broaden my perspective of the world as well as my responsibilities to my fellow humans. I became desperately devoted to my education because I saw knowledge as the key to freeing myself from the chains of ignorance. While learning about cancer in school I promised myself that I would memorize every fact and absorb every detail in textbooks and online medical journals. While I physically treat their cancer, I want to lend patients emotional support and mental strength to escape the interruption and continue living. Through my work, I can accept the shovel without burying my grandmotherâs memory. I love group projects in school, where ideas and creativity flow between people. I adore the end of a cross country race when all the girls from different schools hug and laugh with one another. I cherish being on a soccer team, where the bond between my teammates and me is essential for achieving success. Appreciating uniqueness and connecting to different characters augments my own maturity and depth. When my parents finally revealed to me that my grandmother had been battling liver cancer, I was twelve and I was angry--mostly with myself. They had wanted to protect me--only six years old at the time--from the complex and morose concept of death. Hurt that my parents had deceived me and resentful of my own oblivion, I committed myself to preventing such blindness from resurfacing. They covered the precious mahogany coffin with a brown amalgam of rocks, decomposed organisms, and weeds. And as I began to consider my future, I realized that what I learned in school would allow me to silence that which had silenced my grandmother. However, I was focused not with learning itself, but with good grades and high test scores. I started to believe that academic perfection would be the only way to redeem myself in her eyes--to make up for what I had not done as a granddaughter. When I moved, I brought my Guatemalan heritage with me into the massive bowl that is the United States. Continuing with the recipe, I gradually add water to the masa harina and knead it until it becomes the desired texture. Assimilating into American culture and the American way of life was no easy feat for me and I struggled at first, but I found ways to manage. Although my parents were not fluent in English, I was able to learn English with the help of Dora the Explorer, Barney, and my surroundings.

Application Essay Questions
Application Essay Questions This epic is not only a great bookâ"it is the great book of Poland, as important and symbolic as the Vistula River that flows from the Polish mountains to the Baltic sea. Constitution, Poles are required to memorize sections of Pan Tadeusz, especially those which are thought to embody the core of what it means to be Polish. A Pole reciting the opening of Pan Tadeusz is like an American reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Its author, Adam Mickiewicz, is considered something of a literary god, somewhere between Dante and Shakespeare. I would uncomprehendingly coast through my classes, molding my knowledge to fit the next quiz and promptly forgetting it afterwards. School didnât require, and at times, actively discouraged my insatiable desire to figure out the puzzles of the world, so I shoved that side of myself away and forgot that it even existed. My experience of Lolita is intrinsically connected to the discussions I had with my brother. Lolita inspired in me a fervent hunger for discussion of truth. Stories of centuries ago would flit around us as her voice gave life to Orpheus, the musician, Prometheus, the maker of man, and Pan, the god of nature. In times of strife, I would often revisit these myths, using them to process and understand the stress of my young life. To clarify, my response was not a result of any past trauma. My visceral reaction to Lolita remains a mystery to me. The views of my society are rather one dimensional towards being different. When reflecting that becoming part of this society would lead me to self-hatred, I have come to see Master as an example. The hardship he undergoes and the courage he portrays afterwards have inspired me to embrace who I am. He has always encouraged me to have my own personal outlook and opinion. I think he believes that conformity undermines intellectual potentialâ"an opinion I now strongly agree with. By the time high school rolled around, that girl was nowhere to be found. After years and years of being told what to think and the ârightâ questions to ask, I had retreated into intellectual paralysis. Hungry Joe can only get a peaceful nightâs sleep while working mission lest being driven mad by idleness. Clevenger is a motivated idealist who thinks that anything less than complete devotion to God, Country, and Duty is insane. Colonel Cathcart is a leader that cares more about his reputation for leading âthe toughestâ than he does about the well-being of his people. Moreover, he has taught me to stand my ground and be perceptive. The critical viewpoint I have grown into has trained me not to take things for granted and to be inquisitive. So, in a way, The Master and Margarita has helped me to understand my father and appreciate him as an outsider, an individualist. I have also become an individualist who tries to defy the conformism around him. The words manifested in my body, and remain there today. I canât look at it without a wave of nausea and fascination crashing over me. If you flip through the book now, you can see the pages I gripped so tightly that they tore. After reading Lolita, my brother and I spent the following days dissecting every minute detail, trying to find some kind of understanding of Lolita. We searched together for insight, sat up late after dinner arguing about whether or not Humbert loved Dolores, and what the final meeting between Humbert and Dolores meant. Self-confidence is something I have struggled very long and hard with. I used to worry that I would stand outâ"especially in school.

We strongly suggest you not listen to this particular advice of Mark Sklarow, a man who has openly defied the very bylaws of the organization he leads. Well, for starters, who uses paper and pen these days? Secondly, it is preposterous to suggest that an independent college counselor should not address (and fix!) poor grammar or word choice. If your paper reflects your ideas and strong skills that would interest the board, nothing can stop you from getting accepted. But if youâre looking for someone to tell you that your essay is great as is and those six spelling errors are perfectly fine, well, youâve come to the wrong place. Weâd be mortified if a student of ours submitted essays with grammatical errors to college. Now that doesnât mean our students canât submit fragments. This connection of past experience to current maturity and self-knowledge is a key element in all successful personal essays. Colleges are very much looking for mature, self-aware applicants. These are the qualities of successful college students, who will be able to navigate the independence college classes require and the responsibility and quasi-adulthood of college life. Once you have written your college application essay, your job isnât done â" you need to keep working on it to improve it until you can improve it no further.

Examples Of Personal Statements For Graduate School In Counseling
Examples Of Personal Statements For Graduate School In Counseling Though I was accepted at a few well-ranked Texas public universities, I had higher aspirations. I felt that I could improve my grade point average while completing prerequisite courses transferable anywhere. A man in his forties joined followed quickly by a college-aged student. More men and women filed in until we crunched together shoulder-to-shoulder. Like many of my classmates, I spent most of my high school years working tirelessly in hopes of attending a prestigious university. I lived at home allowing me to save money, help my family, and continue working at my job. It seems to me that to be a Longhorn means to be a leader. To be that which âchanges the world.â I donât feel a similar sense of purpose and community at UH, and feel the path to being leader lies in Austin. With the experiences I gained from my descent into Houstonâs philanthropic heart, I intend to hone my dream to be the leader of change that UT trains all its students to be. I walked to my car that day feeling like I've lost before I even started. By the time I entered high school, I could converse fluently with both my French and Spanish teachers. These experiences continue to shape and inform my desire to balance the arts and sciences by studying linguistic anthropology before enrolling in medical school. This fall, I visited the 40 Acres and immediately noticed a striking difference. Nearly every other student I came across wore burnt orange; people walked confidently and actually socialized on campus. Like the previous example, this straightforward essay addresses all of the things that UT reviewers are looking for. They discuss the context and buyerâs remorse about attending an expensive private university, but they donât dwell on it. Due to my familyâs dire financial situation, I initially wanted to pursue a degree in business and finance solely to be more financially secure and allow me the opportunity to raise my own family someday. However, the more time I spent in Denton, the more I realized that there was a low ceiling for my potential to grow. I felt like a âbig fish in a small pondâ and my development, both intellectual and social, stalled. I also pursued an internship in the accounting department of The Home Depot. There seemed to be a school spirit that was conspicuously absent at UNT. The University of Texas felt like a family, a cohesive yet still fiercely individualistic unit. Even with a just a twoâ"hour visit to the 40 Acres, I could already feel its infectious energy creeping up inside me, a feeling I would not soon forget. I wanted to attend a Texas public university, but not as close as San Marcos and Austin or even College Station or Houston. Before my board exams, I completed additional work on my own and solved about 70 papers in preparation. The work ethic I acquired under her guidance is something that has stuck to me through the challenging times at community college. I continue to self-study with online courses offered on Khan Academy to further exceed expectations. My classmates were behind in their education and far below my grade level, so the teachers focused most of their time on them. With each rejection letter, I wasnât sure any university would admit me. I questioned the point of studying so long for my SAT and ACT and taking a few AP courses that didnât particularly interest me. Reluctantly, I submitted the deposit to my safety school. Since they are applying to a non-STEM program with a 4.0, it isnât necessary for this applicant to discuss their grades or relevant coursework. I took several business-related classes in high school and college. My goal has always been to transfer to UT and earn a degree in finance. My decision to attend Collin stemmed from my mediocre grades in high school â" I wanted a fresh start at a college close to home. For the first time, I saw theoretical concepts come to life as I helped facilitate vendor payment methods and profitable product pricing. The chance to interact with higher level financial managers gave me exposure to strategic decision making and contingency planning.
Essay Questions
Essay Questions It is pretty petty of your teacher to do that but itâs also an important lesson in learning to read and follow directions as stated. I agree that there are a lot of people who are overly concerned with word count, but there are legitimate reasons to keep it in mind as well. If itâs not something important to you and your writing, you can ignore it. Trust me -- you will get brownie points for addressing these points later in your essay. So make sure you know the content and collect your notes -- do whatever you need to prepare. This includes collecting your stationery and paper etc, so that before you know everything you want to write about. and constantly refer to it and use the keywords to show the reader/examiner/your teacher that you are addressing the question. Having a clear idea of the question is SO important to remain organized as you do your research. The majority of your body paragraph should be backing up your paragraphâs point with evidence, facts and quotes. At the end of your paragraph, relate back to the question (don't forget your key-words) and make a judgment about this individual point in reference to your thesis. Youâve already determined what your three major points are and which notes/facts should support which points. Now itâs time to turn your notes into sentences. Facts youâve researched that donât quite fit with your argument should be kept in another section -- that will be for your counter-argument. I write longer words than most, so most of my pages have less words than the estimates on this page. You should change them so they are more accurate for people who use longer vocabulary words. And if you really wanted to know, you could do the calculations to figure it out. It would be 500,000 words if the pages are doubled spaced, and it would be 1 million words if the pages are single spaced. All you have to do is a little math to figure that out. If you can, save a nice interesting fact to hit the reader with in the conclusion. This is your chance to essentially say 'so basically I was right and the previous paragraphs are the proof of it'. Once your topic sentence is written, it's time to turn your notes into sentences to supporting the claim made in your topic sentence. Okay -- thatâs a bit of an extreme example, but the reasoning holds true. Before you start writing like a determined maniac, you need to also have an outline first -- otherwise, you could end up scrapping most or all of what you wrote in the first place. So go back to your screen, accept that the first draft is going to be DARN AWFUL, and challenge yourself to write that first sentence -- then another -- and another. Publishers like certain genres to be within certain word counts, so any author who hopes to be published has to create their works within these counts. What am I supposed to do if I write 1000 words, but it doesnât make the number of pages I want? I donât think I should have to write more words just because mine happen to be shorter than my classmates. We both wrote the same number of words, his are just longer so it takes up more pages. Finish by making a decision, tell the reader what the answer is. Start with something other than the cliche 'to conclude' or âultimately.â Teachers are tired of hearing those words, and often, they can be left out. Go with âultimatelyâ however if you feel like your conclusion is incomplete without this transitional phrase. The tendency toward perfectionism is the enemy of all progress. The biggest mistake I ever made was repeatedly re-reading everything I wrote, going back to edit, realizing I hated my writing, and then getting in the way of any progress I was making. I wrote an essay of 1550 words and it was barely 4.5 pages . This is a great guide, but people should be aware that these are just estimates. For example, I am currently writing a paper and have 5,000 words, but only 17 pages . Things like paragraph size and headers need to be taken into account as well. Aye how many words do I have to put if Iâm typing a 14 page essay. Do you know what fonts have the widest spacing so that they fill up the page more quickly? I need to find a wide font so I donât have to write as many words to fill up the pages on my assignment. If you can send me in the direction of the best wide font to do this, that would be great. Depending on the genre of book you are writing, word count can be critical in whether or not your writing can actually be published.

Undergraduate Admission Essay
Undergraduate Admission Essay The only time I loved math was sophomore year when we did proofs. They were puzzles and fascinating in a way that other math wasnât. As a result, my grades suffered and Iâve spent most of my time in math class frustrated, confused, and upset. My teachers, although they tried, were unable to explain things to me and I, to be fair, was not great at listening to their explanations. I downloaded the rest of the course selections and printed them out. In the weeks leading up to my departure, I trekked to the nearby field with my dog and my books, and I sat at the picnic table overlooking the woods. I dove into Aristotle and Thucydides while my dog investigated the nearby smells. Every evening, I ticked off the days on the calendar, counting down to the day I would fly from Michigan to Santa Fe. Almost every morning I visited the campus bookstore. I bought a copy of James Joyceâs Dubliners, which I managed to snag some downtime to read. I took far too many photographs of the displays in the New Mexico History Museum, and I brought home a beautiful little red rock from the hike we took nearby. I recall my afternoon arrival at St. Johnâs in a blur of adobe buildings, warm placita bricks, and inviting, clean sheets. The next morning, when I woke up, I walked out onto the balcony of the second floor of the Murchison dormitory. I sat down at the plastic picnic table and breathed in the crisp morning air. I watched the sienna hills tinged with gold in the east as the sun slowly revealed itself. Alfred Prufrockâ and learned ancient history from the ancients themselves, we pursued an underlying philosophical thread, examining our readings through the lens of courage. I still have the battered schedule, which I kept in my pocket. He said only understanding yourself and your enemy guarantees victory. He said winning without fighting is the greatest victory. I think we canât resolve conflicts, avoid wars, or maintain stability without understanding ourselves and our neighbors. I think understanding is more important than ever, because people of almost any culture can be found in almost every country. Some of our neighbors have F1 visas and sit next to us in school. The author speaks, and the reader listens as they weave together the holes the author leaves them to fill. While the authorâs words may be constant, the reader is the true variable. When you have more than one reader together, you have each dimension they bring to the book . I canât say that any one of these factors stands out as a single attraction of St. Johnâs. Rather, itâs the combination of them all that makes St. Johnâs such a uniquely appealing college. Some of our neighbors become citizens of our country and permanently change and enrich our national identity. Western military personnel and aid workers are side-by-side with tribal fighters and indigenous community leaders, combating terrorism, lawlessness, and poverty. Trying to single out any one appealing aspect of St. Johnâs is, for me, like trying to pick a favorite piece in a jigsaw puzzle. Some pieces might be more aesthetically pleasing than others, but none of them can compare to the whole picture. However, the classes were the part of the Summer Academy that stuck with me the most. I was never able to portray the view quite as I saw it. Once Iâd calmed down a little, I decided to prioritize the readings required for the class.

College Admissions Essay Topics To Avoid
College Admissions Essay Topics To Avoid âWe definitely read the essays,â says Joie Jager-Hyman, president of College Prep 360 and former admissions officer at Dartmouth College. âYou donât do that job unless you enjoy reading the essays. Like many schools, William & Mary, assigns at least two readers for each application. Many large schools donât require essays at all because they donât have the personnel resources to process the huge number of admission essays which would be submitted. Schools which require essays, however, use the essay input to form a more complete picture of the applicant, over and above the numbers, grades, lists, and so on, which are entered onto the application form. The essays may form the most deciding part of the application after the student has met basic application criteria â" grades, standardized test scores, etc. Again, the number of readers for each essay would depend on individual institutional practices. âI began to see a direct tie between the lack of opportunities facing black Americans due to institutional racism and the conditions that gave rise to gang violence,â Muhammad recalled. His research led him to the writings of African American legal theorist Derrick Bell. âI was very inspired by the depth of his analysis. I believe Derrick Bellâs legal education allowed him to offer the black community cogent insights on their political and social realities. Later in his book, Malcolm X expressed that one of his greatest regrets was his lack of formal academic education and that he believed he would have become a great lawyer but simply never had the opportunity. Sometimes, essays get another look when an admissions committee is making their decision. Many high school seniors find essay writing the most challenging step on the road to college, more stressful even than their final exams. Pressure to excel in the college application process has intensified in recent years as students feel itâs tougher than ever to get into a good school. Hi Carolyn, students get stressed regarding writing college admission essays. The number of readers depends on how âborderlineâ the applicant is, and the number of applicants being processed. Even colleges who say their essay is âoptional,â you shoulod definitely write one. It can make all the difference in your admission decision. So yes, they are read by all the admissions officers, particularly the ones who oversee your county and region. In other instances, each essay is distributed to several readers, who will then compare their impressions when the admissions committee meets to decide upon student admissions. In this instance, the essay would be read by several people. Again, the number of readers for each essay would depend upon individual institutional practices. She helped her with brainstorming different topics and proofread everything. The internet and this column has a plethora of tips about how to master the essay portion of the college admission application but this one quote offers up a tremendous message for students. Taking a risk by writing something unique and different than oneâs peers is a stellar way to stand out from the pack. Three former admissions officers I spoke to told me that, contrary to Stevenâs observations, officers read every essay that comes across their desks.
If you send more than the one supplemental essay suggested, thereâs no guarantee theyâll read themâ"unless they donât think they have enough to go on. Analysis of The Film - Free Essay Example
Short film: The Chaperone Have you ever seen anything so moving, so much so that it touches your soul? The Chaperones is exactly that. This short film takes place in the early 1970s with two exclusive narrators Ralph and Stefan. In this short film the events that are shown are based on a true story, accompanied by some handmade animations and plenty of miniature sets. The Chaperone a film by Fraser Munden encourages the importance of standing up for ourselves. As the short film starts the narrator explains in simple detail the mindset of a student, how they correlate teachers with school. With a first-person narrated feel, it is explained that educators are seen in a certain type of light, they are special and absolutely not human. Ralph, the school teacher in this film, was oddly dressed in basketball shorts as he always did in order to play basketball, like any other person; This of course was incredibly strange to all his students, as they were shocked to see a teacher in human clothes, woah. Setting up the mood for the short film. Diving into this film, we are given a sense of utopia. Taking place in the Montreal, 1973, the story begins to unfold. The setting takes place in a church basement dance that is held every Friday night. Most of the participants in this dance ranged from the age of 12-14 years old, an innocent age. Of course, the chaperones that were entrusted that night consisted of Stefan ââ¬Å" a disk jockey, Peter ââ¬Å" working at the refreshments counter, and Ralph ââ¬Å" the appointed chaperone, which is also the teacher from beforehand wearing the basketball attire. A very wholesome group of individuals. This is where the trouble begins. As any other tame Friday night, everyone was having a good time at the dance. Suddenly, a group of bikers came strolling in with intention of creating chaos, most ranging from 18-40 years old. These bikers, twenty or so of them, are explained to be different with their leather jackets, tattoos, gang affiliation, drugs, and no sense of respect ââ¬Å" simply scary. With the intention of dominating that church, the bikers begin to torment the students/young crowd, dousing them with beer, picking up the incredibly young girls and placing them on their much older lap, and finally peacocking, as explained by the two narrators, Stefan and Ralph, as staying in a group and showing off their ability to intimidate others with their frightening appearance. We are then introduced to a new form of intimidation, miniature sets. The miniature sets were built to personify the feel of when anyone goes into a frightening neighborhood but is surprisingly represented by puppets. Absolutely terrifying. These puppets create the outlook of regular folk being driven by a pink sheep dog in the bad part of the city. This pink sheep dog represents a more powerful leader and the human like puppets represent the quite ignorant and scared part of humanity. They enter into this neighborhood which is littered with blue wolfs, these wolfs are wearing gold chains and wife beaters on, handling miscellaneous sorts of drugs, being involved with violent paraphernalia, and to top it off, it has the added sounds of police sirens blaring in the background. The pink sheep dog, who is driving, then steps out of the vehicle and protects its humanoid puppets. So, why all the different miniature sets? According to Signey Sheldon the neural structures critical for constructing spatial relations are also important for vividly remembering the past and constructing imagined scenarios (Sheldon, 2017). Meaning that when trying to successfully train, or teach, visual aids of more than one form is very effective as it toggles the brain to remember to a specific event because of our ability to recall visual aids in a simple manner. In this case Ralph represents the strong pink sheep dog, a protector. As he becomes aware of the kids, that he was entrusted with, becoming terrified, he then breaks the tension by stating oh boy this looks like a problem when you are so called a chaperone, or you have people under your charge, the responsibility lies to you to make sure that nothing goes wrong, that youre protecting them, and things work out quite well and you have to. The Chaperone (Fraser, 2013). This is the part of the film that gets interesting. As Ralph, whom was speaking, begins to put his thoughts and words into play, he decides to take charge and take control of the situation. He tries to reason with the biker gang, but it is to no avail. From the three mens clothing, early 70s style, the bikers knew they were push overs. They were wrong, as they got a rude awakening. The three adults protecting these children were afraid of the biker gang except for Ralph, he ordered lock the doors, lets stop this. Ralph was ready to protect. This engaged a scenery of epic proportion. The fight scene. Although Stefan was terrified of the biker gang, he was the first to throw a stool to Ralph and like a super hero, Ralph catches it in midair. He begins to swing from left and right, peter turns off the light, and both Ralph and Stephan start throwing heavy metal foldable chairs into the air hitting several bikers. This didnt last so long as the bikers retaliated and started throwing them back, accidently hitting a kid which caused Peter to turn on the lights. This aggravated Ralph, causing him, just him, to move into them. He then asked You wanna fight?. How iconic is that question. He then finds the leader and knocks him out; causing a flurry of exploding pi?à ±ata heads ââ¬Å" another miniature set. This particular miniature set undoubtedly changes the whole setting. As the fights progress, we are met with heavier rock music and explosions of course. This entices the audience to feel justice in the world. Ralph then starts to throw punches, karate moves, and when any of the bikers tried to get up he would knock them right back down. As we imagine this scene, one cannot help but think violence is bad, Daniel Sweeney says The law of self-defense is a law of necessity; the right of self-defense arises only when the necessity begins, and equally ends with the necessity; and never must the necessity be greater than when the force employed defensively is deadly. (Sweeney, 2016). Meaning that self-defense is the only acceptable time to fight, no matter the cost, self-defense is a right. We must embrace the right but not abuse of it. Very humbly, Ralph admits in this story that it was not his punches or moves that kept the bikers down as most were under the influence of drugs, lowering their reflexes. Stefan and peter then stepped in and took care of one biker each. On the other hand, Ralph, the non-human teacher took care of the rest of these bikers with his fists. The story ends with the police arriving, and the narrators explaining that this specific fight lasted for about ten minutes to its audience. When the police question the incidents that took place, all they replied was these boys came in, this is what happened. This was acceptable back in those days, even the parents of the youngsters agreed with these acts of heroism. Stephan then sidetracks to an animated representation of survival of the fittest using an ostrich and a baboon, where the baboon tries to steal an ostrich egg but fails. Stephan explains if you are weak, people pick on you, they take advantage and if you dont respond to what they do, theyll just continually badge you and pick on you, you have to frighten them, and you have to attack first. The idea isnt to attack first, because most of these guys dont know how to fight, thats the reason why theres strength in numbers, thats the reason why they travel in gangs, because single one or two of them out and theyre pussies. Its as simple as that. Absolutely incredible. This short film is action packed, good vs. evil and is very wholesome up until the very end. With a non-scripted first-person narrated voice, we are walked through the entire events that occurred. The hand drawn animation, the miniature sets of puppets, and animated animation truly bring this short film to life. With all the fun that is represented, it seems as if the target audience was not just one group of people, but everyone. The entire vibe of this film is not to be aggressive, although explosions and rock music are fun, truly the message is perceived as our right to stand up and defend ourselves, no matter the size of the other person. we must be brave.
